What Happens When You Sell Your Car to Wreckers in West Auckland?

Selling your car to wreckers can feel like sending it into the unknown. Here's exactly what happens to your vehicle after our team collects it from your West Auckland address.

Step 1: Collection from Your West Auckland Address

Our driver arrives at your agreed time with a flatbed truck or tow truck. They'll inspect the vehicle, confirm it matches the description you gave, pay you cash or bank transfer, collect your keys and paperwork, and load the vehicle. The whole process takes 20–30 minutes.

Step 2: Transport to Our Processing Facility

Your vehicle is transported to our vehicle processing facility in the Auckland region. All vehicles are logged, photographed, and assessed on arrival.

Step 3: NZTA Ownership Transfer

We process the NZTA ownership transfer immediately. You will receive NZTA email confirmation within 24 hours. If the vehicle is being scrapped, we apply for a Certificate of Destruction at this stage.

Step 4: Vehicle Assessment and Triage

Each vehicle is assessed to determine the best recovery strategy:

• Can any components be resold as tested used parts?
• Are there repairable/reconditionable mechanical components?
• Is there demand for this make/model in the used parts market?

Step 5: Depollution

Before any dismantling, the vehicle is depolluted in compliance with NZ environmental requirements:

• Engine oil, gearbox oil, differential oil drained and collected
• Coolant drained and collected
• Fuel removed or drained
• Brake fluid removed
• Air conditioning refrigerant recovered
• Battery removed
• Airbag modules safely handled

Step 6: Parts Removal

Valuable parts are carefully removed, cleaned, tested, and catalogued for resale. Tyres, wheels, glass, body panels, interior trim, engines, gearboxes, and electronic components all assessed.

Step 7: Shredding and Metal Recovery

The depolluted, stripped shell is sent to a vehicle shredder. The resulting metal is sorted and sent to steel mills for recycling. Approximately 80% of a vehicle's weight is recoverable as recyclable material.

Our entire process complies with New Zealand's Resource Management Act requirements for vehicle recycling. No fluids end up in the ground, no components go to landfill unnecessarily.
